In 1955, when Brian Redman was 18 years old, he attended the British Grand Prix with his father and grandfather. In the race Stirling Moss won, followed closely by Juan Manuel Fangiio, both driving a Mercedes W196. Rumor had it that Fangio could have passed Moss, but he let the Englishman win as he was racing in front of a home audience.
After the race Brian approached Fangio and asked him how he went so fast. Fangio told Brian it was simple. “More throttle, less brake”.
